Insurance Relief has an opening for a commercial lines assistant underwriter in Fresno, California. The assistant underwriter assists the underwriting department and sales people with the daily servicing activities to ensure customer satisfaction.
The assistant underwriter is responsible for processing all applications, policies, endorsements, incoming mail, binders, schedules, certificates, audits, and other items related to the servicing of account clients. These processing items may also include certificate requests, following up on notices of cancellation, the issuance of automobile ID cards, policy change requests, and online rating for small business. Other duties include following up on renewal policy issuance, handling renewal proposals, invoicing, processing audits, obtaining loss runs and creating loss tracking, running M&S reports, obtaining premium finance quotes, running MVRs, and preparing accord applications.
The person hired for the job will also be able to meet all quality and timeliness standards while properly documenting all activity, to set priorities and manage workflow to ensure efficient, timely, and accurate processing of all job responsibilities, and to maintain up-to-date proposals, insurance summaries, workflow logs, manuals or other required documentation. He or she must also stay informed regarding industry policies and procedures, new product developments, coverages, legislation, and technology, and attend various training workshops.
To qualify for the position, applicants must have at least one year of experience working in a commercial insurance organization and demonstrate proficiency in a variety of Microsoft Office applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software.
The position also requires a high level of interpersonal skill, strong written and verbal skills, a willingness to learn and take direction, and the ability to calculate figures and amounts, such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages, as well as apply the concepts of basic algebra. Applicants must also have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of novel situations, as well as the ability to interpret a variety of instructions given in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. An active California property and casualty license is preferred, or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire.
